"1861-1865. In memory of the Soldiers and Sailors of Oakland County, G.A.R. Erected by W.P. Everett Women's Relief Corps, No. 377 of Rochester, Michigan, 1911." Separate bronze plaque with Seal of the Grand Army of the Republic and names of those who served 1861-1865. To earn money for the statue, the women gave dinners at $0.25 a meal and held baked goods sales. John Snook of the 22nd Michigan Infantry Regiment composed and read his poem, "Soldier's Monument" at the dedication.
