James Graham s/o Alexander and Sarah. b. 1818, first settler's child born in Oakland County, d. Nov. 18, 1839, 21 years. Sec. OG-10.

James Graham (b. 1749 in Scotland, d. 1837 in Avon Township), his sons Alexander and Benjamin, and his son-in-law Christopher Hartsough on March 17, 1817 first came to present day Rochester and settled here. Alexander built the first house in Oakland County and his son James was the first settler's child born in Oakland County in 1818. "The proprietors of the village subsequently gave the lot on which James Graham was born to him while he was still a youngster and he owned it until his death." In 1926 the Graham family farm on Crooks Road near Auburn was sold and the remains from the Graham Cemetery were removed to Mount Avon and Perry Mount Park in Pontiac. Alexander, his first wife Sarah (d. July 3, 1828, 47 years), his second wife (d. Oct. 29, 1882), his son James and four daughters were reburied in the Old Ground of Mount Avon Cemetery.
